• As Vice Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where he is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Highways, Transit and Pipelines, Tom is a recognized national leader on transportation.
• Successful in making sure Wisconsin motorists receive back their fair share of federal gas taxes we pay. In the past, as little as 75 cents in federal highway funds were returned to our State for every $1 in gas taxes we paid. But now, thanks to Tom’s efforts, we receive back more than $1 in federal highway funds for every $1 we send to Washington.
• Successfully preserved needed rail service for shippers on the Plymouth Line in Sheboygan County.
• Successful in fighting for federal funding to meet State priorities to improve and expand airports around the district.

• Secured funding in the 2005 transportation law for vital transportation improvements in the 6th District, as identified by State and local officials, including: 1) Highway 41 Corridor upgrades (designated as a future Interstate); 2) Highway 23 expansion from Plymouth to Fond du Lac; 3) Wisconsin Street Bridge replacement in Oshkosh; 4) 7th Street Bridge Replacement in Two Rivers; and 5) Pioneer Road rail grade separation in Fond du Lac. |
