Issues

Tom has always fought for cost-effective government, believing that the federal government has many vital responsibilities which have been undermined by waste, fraud and abuse. He places strengthening education, transportation, health care, Medicare and Social Security among his highest priorities, and looks for ways to deliver "the most bang for the buck" to ensure that the taxpayers get their money's worth.

As a persistent foe of government waste, Petri has repeatedly earned high marks from such organizations as the National Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, the Watchdogs of the Treasury, and the Concord Coalition.
