Affordable Health Care

• Supported President’s Medicare Prescription Drug plan – with 37 million seniors now receiving help with their prescription drug costs.

• Cosponsor of legislation to allow safe importation of lower-cost prescription drugs.

• Supports measures to lower costs through market-based reforms, reform of medical malpractice system and allowing small businesses to band together to offer health insurance at a lower cost.

• Voted to reauthorize and reform the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) -- which funds BadgerCare-- in order to provide access to health insurance to more children from lower-income families in Wisconsin. 

• Cosponsor of bill to help self-employed individuals afford quality health coverage by allowing them to deduct the cost of health insurance premiums as a business expense and forego payroll taxes just as corporations do- reducing the average cost for self-employed by more than $1,700 annually.
