• Tom voted against the new health care law which increases government involvement in health care, does little to bring health care costs down, and, as is becoming increasingly evident, will have a price tag well in excess of what has been advertised and that we can afford.
• Instead, Tom believes we should focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness in delivering care (not just insurance reform), more targeted reforms to encourage consumer-driven health care choices through the use of Health Savings Accounts and other such measures, and reform of the medical liability system. As we reduce the cost of care and empower citizens, government can focus assistance on those who need it most.
• Cosponsor of legislation to allow safe importation of lower-cost prescription drugs.
• Voted to reauthorize and reform the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) – which funds Badger Care –- in order to provide access to health insurance to more children from lower-income families in Wisconsin.
• Fought to preserve Senior Care.
